We are delighted to welcome Emilio Echevarria to MetOcean's Research and Development team.

Emilio is a physical oceanographer from Argentina with more than 5 years' experience running regional and global numerical wave models. In his role as wave expert, he will work on improving wave hindcasting and forecasting capabilities at Metocean Solutions.

“Emilio comes to add to our waves modelling group capability, and our team as a whole,” says Dr João Souza, MetOcean’s Research and Development Science Team Leader. “His experience opens new possibilities for the diversification of the services we provide. I am happy to welcome him onboard and look forward to the new developments he will help us with.”

He completed an MSc in Physical Oceanography at the University of Buenos Aires applying spectral wind-wave models to study sediment transport processes at the sandy beaches of Buenos Aires. In 2017, he moved to Australia to pursue his PhD at the CSIRO/UTas Quantitative Marine Science program. His PhD research investigated the influence of ocean surface currents on the wind-wave field, globally and around Australia through state-of-the-art wave numerical modelling and an extensive bulk of observations from altimeters, buoys and Synthetic Aperture Radar.

“I'm very happy and excited to join MetOcean,” says Emilio. “It will be a privilege to work alongside and learn from such experts in the field.”
