We are very pleased to welcome Dr Saulo Meirelles to MetOcean Solutions.

Saulo is a physical oceanographer and will be joining our MetOcean Research and Development team, based in Raglan. In his role as a coastal wave modelling expert he will be providing support to operational and consultancy projects.

“We are delighted to welcome Saulo to our team,” says Dr João Marcos, MetOcean’s Research and Development Science Team Leader. “Saulo brings new capabilities which add to the team’s expertise. His experience in waves and morphodynamic modelling opens new doors for our research and development. We look forward to have him on board.”

Following a BSc in Oceanography, Saulo obtained an MSc in Coastal Engineering at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, researching how waves dissipate over muddy bottoms through modelling and observations. In 2019, he completed his PhD in Coastal Engineering at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He investigated mesoscale processes of plume dynamics with the physics of sediment transport on the inner shelf. In Delft, Saulo had the chance to experiment with morpho- and hydrodynamic models.

Saulo has gained extensive maritime knowledge through many hours at sea, leading oceanographic cruises focused on ocean data collection for the oil and gas industry. With vast experience in operational oceanography, Saulo also brings his coastal modelling expertise to MetOcean after over 10 years working with coastal processes.

Saulo likes to spend his free time in nature with his family.
