<image:title>News - Our Better Work Stories - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>"Studying the ocean is both a passion and a job, so for most of us, it luckily doesn't have to end when the work day does,” says MetOcean Solutions’ Oceanographer Dr Julie Jakoboski. “When the ocean is a part of our daily lives in so many ways, it's exciting anytime we get the chance to deploy a new instrument, learn something new about what the ocean is doing, or improve our ocean forecasts and return this information to the ocean communities around New Zealand. I love days like this when - between pre-work surf, coding part of a new operational ocean observing system, doing fieldwork at sea, and analysing the results - the day revolves around the ocean."</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Extensive track record and maritime experience.</image:title>
<image:caption>MetOcean Solutions was established in 2005 with a vision to invent clever solutions to connect people to weather information that matters. The company became part of Meteorological Service of New Zealand (MetService) in 2017. Altogether, our staff have thousands of hours of experience working at sea. Some of us have worked in the offshore industry; others have spent years collecting marine data. As a team, we understand the ocean and know what it is like to work at sea.</image:caption>

<image:title>Research & Development - Southern Ocean Research</image:title>
<image:caption>MetOcean Solutions has deployed instruments to collect wave data using moored and drifting buoys. All data is freely available to the scientific community and can be viewed in real time. The Southern Ocean is known to play an important role in the climate system - cycling heat, carbon, and nutrients. Waves modulate the air-sea fluxes and the swells generated in this region have far-reaching effects, contributing significantly to the wave climate in all the major ocean basins. MetOcean Solutions’ research project aims to develop a global wave model with improved performance in the Southern Hemisphere, and will use the data to verify the next generation of model physics.</image:caption>

<image:title>Research & Development - Moana Project</image:title>
<image:caption>Revolutionising ocean forecasting. Bringing together 54 experts from across 14 national & international organisations, the Moana Project is changing the way we see our seas. The Moana Project is a 5-year $11.5 million MBIE Endeavour ocean research initiative. It aims to improve understanding of coastal ocean circulation, connectivity and marine heatwaves to provide information that supports New Zealand’s seafood industry. The project includes outstanding research organisations in New Zealand and overseas, and partners with Whakatōhea iwi to support their rohe moana interests in the Bay of Plenty.</image:caption>
