MetOcean Solutions at the New Zealand Marine Science Society Conference

Dr Sarah Gardiner from MetOcean Solutions presented at the New Zealand Marine Science Society annual conference in Wellington 4-7 July.

Sarah's talk centered on the use of forecasting tools for coastal management, describing the downscaling techniques that MetOcean Solutions employ to generate regional, local and hyper-local (e.g. berth in a port) forecasts for any location.

"When used correctly,  and calibrated and validated against measured data, modelling can be an incredibly powerful tool." states Sarah. "We hold hindcasting datasets for wind, currents and waves reaching back 36 years - a valuable resource which provides baseline data for project scoping and planning, offshore and coastal design, environmental impact assessment and input to other models."
