Offshore Weather
MetOcean Solutions understand the impact of weather on offshore operations, and have developed a range of services to support the offshore industry.
- 7-day site-specific forecast of waves, winds, currents and tides.
- 14-day long range look-ahead for planning
- Auto email delivery with updates 2 -4 times per day
- Web access 24/7 to all data and wave, wind and isobar charts
The service is available for any location. Data are sourced from global atmospheric and oceanographic wave models, as well as high-resolution regional and local forecast domains. Real time data assimilation is included in the regional and local domains. The service is automated and delivered without human interpretation. However, we can supply raw weather products to forecast service providers to provide interpretive comment and specific hazard warnings from our forecast products. We can supply raw weather products to forecast service providers.
Detailed desk-top studies are regularly produced for clients who require an understanding of the historical oceanographic and meteorological conditions. These studies include expert analysis of the relevant weather parameters for operational planning, rig selection and riser design, mooring design, weather downtime statistics, and installation / construction operations.
Marine Route Weather
Our global forecasting system, with nested regional and local domains, allows weather forecasts to be extracted along shipping routes. A web-based tool provides the interface for fleet mangers or third-party forecasters to update vessel position and manage the email delivery of products to vessels at sea.
Port Weather
Traditional marine forecasts cover a general sea area - not specific locations such as the entrance to a harbour or along a shipping channel. However, for safe navigation and operational planning this is exactly where the information is required. MetOcean Solutions meets this need by providing customised high-resolution wave forecast domains at the best possible scale – resolving the wave conditions exactly where the data are needed. The result is an operational tool that provides a 7-day hour-by-hour look ahead of the waves, winds and tides – for all the critical locations along vessel transit routes into the harbour.
Data is available online to the port operators over the web, in a user friendly graphical format as well as text files. Operational applications of the forecasting services include:
- Dynamic under keel clearance planning
- Optimising berth usage
- Managing port dredging operations
- Health and safety management
- Surge prediction and mitigation planning
