Intro
MetOcean Solutions have the experience and technical skills to support offshore operations and ocean engineering.
Offshore Metocean Conditions Site Reports
MetOcean Solutions provide site-specific offshore climate data to support geophysical survey, exploration and construction operations, at any location worldwide.
From a database of hindcast and remotely-sensed weather conditions, the following analyses are included in our standard site report:
- Monthly and annual wave height statistics
- Monthly and annual wave height exceedence tables
- Operational downtime estimates based on wave height persistence exceedence and non-exceedence (monthly or seasonal)
- Return period wave height extrema (seasonal or annual)
- Joint probability distributions of wave height, wave period, and wave direction
- Monthly and annual wind speed statistics and joint probability of wind speed and wind direction seasonal characterisations
- Tidal range and parameters (elevation and currents)
- Total current statistics and joint probability of speed and direction
- Colinearity and coincidence of environmental forces
The typical delivery time for a site-specific metocean conditions report is 2 weeks.
Offshore Engineering Data Services
Methodologies for the derivation of environmental statistics for ocean engineering are well-established in MetOcean Solutions.
Our capability is based on a broad range of project experience, coupled with a thorough understanding of data requirements and analysis techniques required for offshore developments.
We provide:
- Environmental design criteria for platforms, pipeline and floating facilities
- Ambient and extreme metocean statistics for operations and construction
- Marine data collection and targeted data analyses
- Seabed surveys (side scan sonar and bathymetry)
- Oil spill fate and produced water discharge modeling
- Marine growth and benthic ecology assessments
Forecast Support for Offshore Operations
The MetOcean forecasting system provides high-resolution site-specific marine weather data for offshore operations, worldwide.
State-of-the-art forecasting solutions are tailored to meet the project requirements. Standard products include waves, winds, tides and currents. Real-time measured data can be viewed alongside forecast information, and data are predicted out to 7- and 14-day horizons.
See Forecast Services for more detailed information.
Oil Spill and Emergency Response Capability
Oil spill trajectory is entirely dependent on the patterns of winds and ocean currents, which are often highly complex and changeable.
Our system uses the best available data to simulate the past trajectory patterns, and thereby predict likely impacts in the event of a spill. Using continuous 10-year spill scenarios, a robust database of possible outcomes is generated.
For response to emergency situations, we provide two solutions:
- A web-based tool allows responders to enter the spill details, and our server replies with the forecast trajectory results.
- Alternatively, for dedicated locations a 4-day spill simulation is undertaken automatically and updated every forecast cycle. With this system a real-time trajectory result is always available to responders.
The web-based tool also allows the user to extract the wind and current files for external trajectory software (such as GNOME or OILMAP). Spatial limits are defined from a map, and the data selected from a 14-day window (7-day history and 7-day forecast).
MetOcean Solutions provides an Emergency Response Interface (ERI) to our forecast customers, as well as documentation and training on the use of the system.
Ship Routing
This web-based tool allows a weather forecast to be extracted along a pre-defined ship route based on waypoints.
The duty forecaster or operations manager simply inputs the latest position and speed of the vessel, and then our server selects the best available forecast information along the route for the next 7 days. These data can be served as text files or as graphs and daily charts of winds and waves with the vessel and route overlaid.
Data available include:
- Wind speed and direction
- Significant and maximum wave height
- Peak period and wave direction
- Visibility
- Thunderstorm risk
The route forecast tool can be operated by a third party weather forecast service provider.
